Building for the vanilla web
I’ve been looking to expand the technologies I have to offer my clients. For one, I’m looking for a lighter-weight web framework to supplement WebObjects (“enterprise class” is not always required and sometimes cheap hosting is). To this end I’ve been evaluating Rails and Django over the past several months. Rails currently has the edge (for a mishmash of arbitrary, subjective, and AJAX reasons) but Django comes very highly recommended.
This video with presentations by David Heinemeier Hansson (Ruby on Rails) and Adrian Holovaty (Django) from a gathered at DePaul University in 2005 is proving very informative.
